Writing may be my passion, but my day job is working with seniors. Most days I work in the Assisted Living unit at Shoal Centre, but on Friday mornings I’m out in the community – driving from one home to another. When the client load is busy, I face a full morning of strange faces. On those mornings, I confront my daily motto: Do one brave thing, and flee for safety.
This one brave thing could be anything new, and most likely the very thing that makes my stomach knot from fear. Stopping for a cup of coffee in the lunchroom one day, I spotted a black and white cartoon poster. Above the caption sat a goofy looking penguin, gripping two cymbals, poised just above the head of a grim looking polar bear. I laughed to myself, thinking what a silly penguin, but the poster’s messages struck home. On those hectic Friday mornings it’s the beaming smile of that crazy penguin that allows me to face my next new client.
Four more sleeps till our next adventure
